The fair

We had a great time at the state fair yesterday. It was a bit warm but we walked around and saw all the cows, pigs, and chickens.

We watched the working dogs move cows into pens. These dogs are amazing. With whistles and one word commands they move the cattle into small areas.

Anything on a Stick.

 

You can get almost any food on a stick at the fair.

These are the ones I can remember.

Pizza on a stick.

Steak on a stick.

Porkchop on a stick.

Chicken on a stick.

Shrimp on a stick.

Fried cheese on a stick.

Chocolate nut sundae on a stick.

Fried peaches on a stick.

 Fried oreo cookies on a stick.

Fried twinkies on a stick.

Nebraska has 3 large cities. Omaha, Lincoln (the capitol), and Bellevue which is the home of Offutt Air Force Base. Otherwise, the state is made up of farming communities, corn fields, and grazing land for cattle.

 So much work goes into the state fair. The farmers and ranchers come from all over the state to show their prize winning animals, talents, produce, preserves, handmade quilts and things.

It has been a tradition Nebraska since 1868.

Hook and I are off to the Nebraska State Fair today in Lincoln. We go every year and it looks like it's going to be a beautiful day.

At the river last weekend I was introduced to the sand burrs.

We didn't have stuff like that in Michigan where I grew up.

We had pickers, that grew on bushes...sand burrs lay close the the ground and are hard to see.

 

I spent 2 shifts on my feet...which have sand burrs in them!!!

 

Does anyone know how to get the little sliver spikey things out of my feet???

They are becoming very unsightly, a little infected and they hurt!!!

 

I can't see or feel the little buggers but they are in there...festering!!

 

Help...anyone....please.

I'm going to bed now.

I hope someone has a magic cure left for me when I wake up.

My Foot Part 2

I'm up, not liking it. I dunno what to do about my burrs. They look like 3 mosquito bites in the arch of my right foot.

The ends of the stickers are not visible so I can't remove them.

No doctor for me....I'll be going in with a sterlized needle...I need picking control...that's what the doctor would do but he'd be very mean about it!!!

I'm a big chicken!!

 

Wish me luck on my self-surgery. I will use peroxide and antibotic ointment afterwards, maybe a band aid for the first day.

 I have played the powerball for 13 years, the same numbers twice a week.

Powerball is played in 29 States, Washington D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The odds of winning the grand prize are 1 in 146,107,962.

The last winners in Nebraska was on February 18, 2006. A group of eight coworkers at the ConAgra Foods plant (a meat packing plant) in Lincoln, Neb.,claimed the record $365 million jackpot.

The group had been playing for 5 years pooling their cash, $5 a piece after the powerball jackpot would reach over 45 million dollars.

They took the cash payout, after taxes each of them cleared 15 million dollars.

What would you do?

 I watched a program yesterday that told of lottery horror stories.

The program emphasized that winning a large amount of money would only magnify your current personality traits.

Your life would change.

To me, money means security.

The common worries of paying a mortgage, car payments, and monthly bills would be wiped away.

My powerball plan, because one can dream.

No more work, but volunteering my time would be my way of giving back.

Take care of my family, pay off their houses, bills, and leave them with the same security I would be enjoying.

 A beautiful log cabin built on a large acreage, secluded, quiet.

A new car, I've always wanted a Jaguar.

Give to the Alzheimer's Association to find a cure and to help families affected by the disease.

I would have too many pets and give regularly, time and money, to the Humane Society.

Give to abused women shelters and programs.

Not to fool myself, I would splurge on a personal shopper to do my grocery shopping. (I hate the grocery!!)

I LOVE jewelry!!

I would travel and go to spas, maybe get a little nip and tuck, take a cruise or 2..a year.

For now, I'll prepare for my 12 hour shift tonight and just keep on dreaming.
