Hook was on a sports site the other night playing some useless game and all of a sudden our computer was taken over. It shut down, the only thing that would come up were pop-ups advising us to buy things to repair what ever was invading our PC.

(Never give out personal info during an invasion!!)

We have Norton, just renewed it in September.

Hook tried to contact them. Don't expect help from Norton if this happens.

 He could not get in touch with a human being. He was sent to a voicemail and no one returned our calls. I will be trying to get a refund 'til my dying breath!!

He called Dell where I purchased my computer.

Dell said...your warranty has run out...for a small fee...ummm DELL if my computer is fried I guess I'll be going to Gateway!

He call Cox, our internet provider. They were very helpful in giving us numbers and sites. Although they couldn't actually fix the problem they directed us to someone who would.

 

They directed us to Microsoft!!!

Microsoft was

AMAZING!!

Hook spent the better part of 2 days on the phone with the Microsoft tech support. He spoke with people located as far away as the Philippines.

Their techs took over the computer, renaming files, removing all the bits and pieces of our invasion, and installing the best security features they had to offer.

We have removed Norton from our system, installed McAfee which is free from Cox as part of your internet package.

LOVE IT!

This is the first time anything like this has ever happened to us. It is a scary, powerless feeling. It's good to know there is help out there.

I try to think back to the days before the internet invaded our lives and I wonder how any of us got along. So much information at our finger tips. Being able to keep in touch with family in friends by just clicking.

 It still amazes me.

One of the things I enjoy is being able to access my home town paper. I don't know when it happens but I have to look at the O-bits first. My dad does that...I think it's an after 40 thing.

 

I visited the http://www.lansesentinel.com/ this weekend.

A small town paper, usually only 10 pages, full of "Back Porch News" who got their first buck or bear during hunting seasons. I see familiar faces and names. People who I went to school with who are now doing the jobs our parents did years ago. Chief of police, fire marshall, coaching the high school ball teams. All older, balder, aged 29 years.

WOW I'm old !!!

I live a different life now. The paper here is full of tragedy, shootings, sale ads. What I wouldn't do for some good ole' back porch news!!

Everyone is still buzzing over the election last night. I watched the men speak. All of it was very moving and exciting.

I have to admit, I really don't get into politics. I don't discuss my views or debate with others about theirs.

As I watched last night I did feel a sense of new hope, a change. I'm hoping our country can get back on the right track...financially, resolve the wars, be more accepting of each other.

I sound like an optimist.

Yeah, Yeah, I know....fell off the face of the earth.

I'm still here.

Fall brings us busy time with the college football season.

People over, good food, fun times.

Nebraska is 5-3, with a few really tough games ahead.

Rodriguez's gets a new contract for 6 years. Michigan 2-5 is off to its worst start since 1967. What is up with that?! I can't even watch them this year.

Home front news.

Hook is still off work. They really aren't doing anything to move forward. They've been adjusting medications which has been horrifying, really bad side effects with some of them. I see no end in sight with this.

The neighbors dropped a tree on my house and broke it. I come from a broken home now....

I called my insurance people, they will be out this week some time to peek at it.

I ripped up all the carpet in the basement and painted everything including the floor. It's like an empty canvas, I have no idea what I'm going to do with it now.

My dad is heading south for the winter, he should be in Florida sometime today. He said he can't watch Michigan play either!

My oldest brother is in Galveston, TX helping with the flood victims there. He has worked for FEMA since Katrina.

My son isn't doing so hot on New Mexico. His dad is fed up, he's not working. Last I heard he was living in a car. I don't know what to do or think about that. It's all about choices.

Me, I'm just doing what I do. Still working with the elderly. Still thinking there is gold at the end of the rainbow. Taking it one day at a time.

Long time no see!!!

 

We've been busy this summer, as usual. This past weekend we went tanking down the Elkhorn River here in Omaha.

We picked up Betty about an hour into our trip, I don't know how long she had been waiting for a ride beside the river, but she was very dirty and a bit chilly.
